Motorhome holidays - Guides

If you haven’t been camping in France before you will find some guides are absolutely invaluable. Which ones will best suit you depends very much upon your individual approach to a holiday. For regular campsite users there are many different campsite guides varying from the Caravan Club (U.K.) Guide, the Alan Rodgers guides and the Michelin Guide, to the ACSI system. If you’re only going to travel high season (July & August in most places) the first three guides will offer a good selection of possibilities. Outside of high season my preference is for the ACSI guide. This book contains some 1600 listings and comes with an in-built card which allows you to fill in your personal details. Using the guide and card with the current year date on it entitles you to a fixed charge of €11, €13 or €15 per night for two people in a motorhome on a standard pitch with 6 amp electrical connection. Unalike Ireland most continental sites include use of the showers in the basic charge. As an added bonus this guide now includes GPS navigation coordinates, and it can be bought on line from www.vicariousbooks.co.uk for U.K.£10.50 plus P&P. They also have a European campsites guide in Disc format for those who carry a laptop. We have found the ACSI system to be easily the best non-peak season system and can recommend it wholeheartedly. However if this sounds expensive to you, the next option in France is to use their Aires. These are either free or nominal charge overnight parking spaces. Aires...
